A friend of mine (an overseas cousin) has just deleted me as a friend

can I be sure they actually chose to do this ? Does facebook ever delete friends in error ?

what should I do now ? is it poor form to send them a message and ask why they deleted me ?
*cousin I only met once

Unfortunately I doubt it's an error... some people just decide to downsize their facebook friends. I'd suggest you just leave it for now. Unless you really want to be friends and you want to stay in touch I'd just ignore the fact you've been deleted. Do you have their phone number / email address? If not and you do want to stay in touch then message but otherwise I wouldn't.

I would add them as a friend again. If they don't approve you, then you know they deleted you, but they will most likely add you back. It could be that they hadn't talked with you in a while and forgot who you were based on your photo or something and deleted you by accident as they were cleaning out their account. It could've been a glitch too. Who knows, but the only way to stay in touch is to give it another shot!

It is unlikely that it was done by accident, but it may not be that much of a personal thing, either.

Some people delete friends for a lot of different reasons.

Some only keep their closer friends as their Facebook friends.

Others may delete a friend who sends too many invitations to all sorts of applications that do not interest them.
