Great questions! As a marketing and advertising professional without a degree for the last 10 years, I would say that completing your BA in Marketing really would be in your best interest. The job/global market has changed so much, you won't be able to compete without a BA and solid experience. If this is your passion and you want this to be your life's work -- I would encourage you to go all the way. I will actually return to school this fall to complete my degree is Marketing. I would encourage you to focus on technology - the use of the internet, email marketing, SEO, pay-per-click, social networking, etc -- these are the areas are exploding right now and in order to land a job (even an internship) you need to understand how Marketing is evolving.

If your goal is to be in a leadership role, you'll need your Masters degree.

Good luck!

I just graduated 2 months ago with my Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, and I have my first interview for an entry-level marketing job tomorrow. Thus, I believe a degree is important to show employers that you are dedicated to sticking it out for the long haul.

This is the best way I have understood the difference between marketing and advertising:
Marketing is like a pie with several pieces inside of it. One of those pieces is advertising. Thus, advertising is a small portion of what all of marketing is make up of. Marketing incorporates advertising, promotion, packaging, branding, positioning, pricing, and more. All in all, advertising is not the only thing that marketing consists of, but it is one of the pieces that contributes the the overall marketing of a product or service.
