Instagram is probably the best starting point I'd say. It's worldwide and fashionable at the minute. If you begin to create a reputation or somewhat of a fan base then maybe open up a twitter and see how far it spreads.

I would suggest flickr as the best social network to put your photos on. Amazing photographs on flickr spread throughout the site. Make sure to join flickr groups and add your photos to those groups, so people can find and like your photography. Flickr is full of people looking for photographs, unlike twitter and pinterest, where people browsing are probably less interested in seeing photography.

I would go with tumblr second. For tumblr, its important to upload your photographs directly to tumblr, instead of hyperlinking them, so that they show up in other peoples newsfeeds. With tumblr, tagging your picture helps.

Lastly, Instagram is good for low quality pictures. Instagram would be most helpful for spreading your photography if you already have friends that use it. Make sure to use hashtags.

I would say tumblr for sure. You could create your own site for all of your pictures and gain a real following.

Facebook is the #1 photo sharing site in the world followed by twitter, instagram, and tumblr.

The problem with tumblr and instagram is that it is mostly filled with other photographers. Facebook will have a broader public reach.
