Should I get the Apple iPad Air or the Microsoft Surface 2?

I'm having difficulty choosing between the two. I want to be able to do my schoolwork but I also want to have to access to many different apps. The iPad has many apps but it doesn't have as much availabilty to do schoolwork such as the Surface 2. So which one would be the better option?

Contrary to popular belief the surface 2 already sports a decent app range for the average user such as yourself. Most apps aren't exactly "furnished" in both OS's app stores and I think you will probably just need a couple (facebook, twitter, youtube, some games). In regards to schoolwork, I believe that that is the main selling point of the surface 2. Sure the ipad can do the same but take into account it is built for entertainment unlike the surface. The surface's better keyboard and free microsoft office is a pretty obvious sign that it screams productivity.
