What is this trend about being 'mixed race'?

What is this trend about being 'mixed race'?
So I'm mixed race, my mother is white English and my father is black Caribbean from one of the islands called Dominica. I've noticed recently there seems to be some trend about being 'mixed race', and some of these people claiming to be mixed race just aren't. For example on instagram/twitter, in peoples bio's they will say 'mixed race' like it automatically means they are pretty?
Too many people generalise mixed race people to be pretty, I admit most of the other mixed race people I have seen are pretty and the boys are handsome but we are no different to any other race. It really really annoys me when people say they are mixed because they are 'half spanish and half irish' yet they are white. I've already looked it up and to be classed as 'mixed race' you have to have one parent of colour, it doesn't count if they are different nationalities.
I don't want to sound like a snob but I get compliments, I get attention, and I am classed as 'hot' at my school but I am humble. I don't boast about my heritage or anything. This year I have made 2 black friends and they say I'm the first mixed race girl they have gotten along with because the others are stuck up because they think their race makes them beautiful.
It's like the whole TeamLightSkin vs. TeamDarkSkin. Why is this?

Every race has it's good and its bad, pretty and its ugly, etc. However, most (not all) mixed race people do seem to take the best from both parents. I have seen two none attractive people of different races make some drop dead gorgeous children. Typically, the ones mixed with black. This whole light-skin vs dark-skin thing has been going on ever since slavery and it's really sad that it is still prevalent to this day. I don't think that someones skin color makes them anymore pretty than someone else. Beauty is more than skin color, it is more than skin itself. However, some people won't allow their minds to let their eyes see this beauty.

you may be mixed, but in common society you'll be considered black. it's to your advantage to check off "black" on job applications and school entry forms to receive extra attention and extra benefits. oh, and as part of being black, you'll likely wind up with a black man, so get ready for this. scary thought, huh?

You know what I understand and completely agree with what you are saying I'm also mixed race as well (Jamaican, Sicilian, Nigerian & English) I don't have a insta or a twitter account I just think it's a waste of time to have more then one of these social networking site. I've been classed as good looking but then again I don't think a lot of myself other then ordinary person, I just don't like how mixed race people are automatically classed as "Gorgeous" But then again saying that a lot of mix race people have there own heads stuck up there arse! (excuse my language) so we kinda dug that hole ourselves but because of this certain individual have to deal with the consequences what I mean by that is that (well me personally) I contently get judge as being something I'm not even if I do something as little as put a picture up.. This message is really direct so sorry if I'm going on about 'mixed race' too much, I don't know if it's any different in certain parts of the world (which I hope it is) but in England it's a bit of a problem. As for that TeamDarkSkin TeamLightSkin it's a load of bollocks sound like post code gangs like you have to be from a certain area to be able to walk through it. Well that is all I wanted to say. Thank you
