Is there any firewall which allows only limited websites to browse?

I work in a college, and in my workplace i need to limit students from browsing websites like facebook,youtube etc. I cannot unplug the cable as, the same connection is used to connect to oracle server. So what all i need is an application which allows only websites like w3schools.com or wikipedia etc.

I tried netdog, but that did not work well, if you happen to know anyother website do let me know.
Any kind of tangible help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the same student related problem. My little beasts have tried to access just about everything, from Facebook to online games to porn. And they are clever and cunning.
The first thing you should do is set up a new account, with limited rights, for student use. That way the evil monsters cannot undo any changes you make, as they can if they have access to an administrator account. You can limit those rights even more than the standard, if you like. You can even restrict what software on your computer they can access.
It may take a bit of setting up, but it's worth it.

You might also try online armor.

If using Microsft, there is a small (free) app that helps you configure it to allow or block whatever you like.
There are a range of softwares - netdog is a soso one - that allow you to restrict access to just about anything.

You might try discussing it with the school's IT man.

Some anti-virus can be similarly configured to block websites or whole domains.

Sometimes you can configure the Browser itself to do it.

If you like, you can set up the limited account to only access websites on a list (whitelist) that you have made yourself.

You can even stop them from using some cleverclogs stuff they bring on a USB stick to bypass security restrictions.

And you can do it all without imposing any restrictions on yourself, or slowing your machine to a crawl.

I hate censorship. But kids need protection and guidance. And to get on with what's important.
