Will I be charged roaming rates for using the Facebook app abroad?
I am heading to France and am not sure if the have free wifi. I have 1gb work of data on my 3G price plan with 3. I was wondering if using the Facebook app would count as data usage and consequently roaming? If so does anyone know the price of any data add-on plans for 8 days abroad?

If your plan includes free Facebook via the browser (like the Australian provider Telstra does by using 0.facebook.com) then it won't. Other than that you'll be charged an extra fee for using your data abroad, because it's not using your service providers satellite.

It will use data roaming, unless you are able to do it via wifi.

You didn't mention what country you are from. Each country and its service providers have different plans that cover different things.
I'd recommend talking to your service provider. The Facebook app uses data (it doesn't work when your internet is off, right? So it uses data, contrary to what another person has said), so if you use the cell network to access it while abroad, then you are using roaming data. Whether you get charged extra, and what you get charged depends on your current plan. Some service providers offer temporary roaming packages, so again I would recommend talking to your provider to see what is covered under your plan, and how much the packages are. |
