photography and the world (speech)?
I am writing a speech and the topic is "how does your passion impact the world?" my passion would be photography. 8th grade.
~
well i have 3 main points and need help answering one. and you can answer the rest as well if you like hahaha..
~
First of all photography is a way of showing people what life is outside what they know and have seen. for example it puts them aware about starvation and poverty in the world. They might know that it exists but one they see pictures it really impacts them and makes them want to help.
~
Second point (this is the one i need a little more info on SO if you could help) photography as a business. well it has brought many new jobs in the world and opened many positions for people. It has also attracted the attention of many customers.(can you please help with gaining more information about this)
~
My third and last point. It shows us the good things in life.for example helps us remember things we have done, people we have met, and places we have gone to. we also use it in everyday life. so it has a big social impact. along with helping us remember things that have happened. photography has recorded many milestones and accomplishments in our history.for example the civil war (which i think was the first war photographed).

Can you also please give me some feed back. Do you think if i elaborated a little bit more it would make a good speech? and please help me more n the second one. also are those good points on how it affects the world. i ask for to much ;p but i will be very grateful.
Its going to be 3 to 4 minutes long

Photography serves many purposes, it first of all tells stories. The stories are about the world, the community, the family, the person, the landscape, the weather, the wars, the embarrassing moments, the touching moments, the world we walk by every day and how one person - you (or me) - sees the world. We show the world what our perspective is, how we see the world we live in.

Tell why. And tell what it has meant to you. I looked at a photo today that I posted on facebook. It is a picture of my grandmother feeding me when I was only a few months old. It is of a woman I never really got to know, she is smiling at the food sitting on my nose that didn't make it into my mouth, and I am looking at her, this simple baby, looking at this woman who loved me until she died. It captured a moment in my history that happened only once and I got to remember a time so very very long ago before my own memory. It tells a story beyond words.

I have something for you but it's not really one of your points.

Photography is showing the world how you see the world. It's not just showing someone what they haven't seen. When you take a photograph, you see a small part of what's going on. So you take an image of what you think is important. This is your opinion. Someone else might see it differently. You also include and exclude things around it to make a point. This, too, is your opinion.

Let's use one of your examples. Say there is a starving child with a bowl of food. You take a picture of the whole thing from side. You say, "here is a child with a bowl of food." I take a photograph of his bowl with fly on it. Bowl contains only little bit of food. In the background, there is a child with big eyes. I'm saying "here is such a small amount of dirty food this child must survive on" See the difference?

I think this kind of detail makes the photograph interesting. You may think giving a big picture is more important.

How long is this speech going to be? I'm kind of thinking you are trying to cover too much.

Your approach is spot on and it is already interesting...

Your first point is called 'illustration'...photography helps attract attention, it can be used to illustrate important and controversial topics...it might encourage people to protest against or support different issues.

The second point is within the 'economy'...it's a massive industry...in manufacturing cameras, photographic equipment and materials...camera shops supplying everything that both professional and enthusiasts need...professional photography is essential in marketing and advertising products...anything and everything can be promoted with a simple image.

The third point...Photography records and documents important events (history)...it reminds us of the times that were worth celebrating...with our friends, families and country...and can also help us remember the tragedies of the past helping influence how we live today.

Add your own specifics and you will have a pretty good presentation...well done and good luck..!
