Facebook Notifications problem?

My facebook notifications seem to be stuck on 1 when I have none. If I have more than one notification, then the number it displays is correct. Once I check my notifications it then acts as it should, showing no new notifications, until I refresh the page or go to a different page on facebook, and then it shows me the little red shout-out saying "1," but I check and there are no new notifications. It's been like this for about a week now. Any ideas what's causing it? Please help. This is driving me slowly insane.

This is caused by Facebook itself.
You're not the only one with these problems. Facebook is just glitchy sometimes. It's annoying, but what can you do? Nothing really.
