Does it take people a long time to find good friends?

I'm going to be 28yr old female, All my life I had never had a true real life friend only facebook friends to talk to never even in school I had any friends I was more of the outcast sad to say I never even dated anyone I'm not into guys I was always into woman and I never had a girlfriend, It seems like I try hard online to get a girlfriend a lot of people around here are straight but will that eventually come to as well as friends? I hope so it just a bit lonely, I think this generation is the hardest to have any friends honestly off line, how people still treat and think of you differently even when your older they tend to be the same way I'm going to start volunteering in a few weeks hopefully I can meet new people.
