How do you use the # button on Twitter?

I'm new to twitter, it's for a farmers market. How do I use this # button?

You just put the "#" and type whatever you want and it will make it a link to other people who have posted the same thing. For example: #omg

All you have to do is type it in. After you post your tweet with the # it will automatically turn blue. For example: You write your tweet "I'm answering a question on Yahoo answers! #Yahoo" And then the hashtag will do it all automatically. Hope that makes sense..
