Friend Requests On Facebook?
Okay, somebody friend requested me on facebook. They didn't write a message or anything where they give you the option to write one, it just says you have two friends in common. Does that mean facebook is recommending that we be friends, because we might know each other, or did she send it herself? I just don't want to look stupid. Thanks for your help!
Okay, i'm really confused because half of the answers say she requested it and half say facebook reccomended it. Is anyone 100% positive??

It is just suggesting that you might know those two people, because the person that requested you is friends with them too. You don't have to add the other two people "you might know".

When you get an actual friend request, it means the other person actively requested to be friends with you.

This is most likely someone has sent you a 'you may know this person recommendation'. A mutual friend has suggested you might like to add one of their friends.

"Does that mean facebook is recommending that we be friends, because we might know each other, or did she send it herself?"

Both. They show the "people you may know" on the home page.

Facebook doesn't recommend friends this way. There is an application called "People You May Know", facebook puts the people that it thinks you might know. This application is present on your facebook homepage after you log in on the right side of the page.

As for the person who added you, s/he did it herself. S/he thinks s/he knows you. If you have any doubt, message them asking them if how they know you before you decide to accept or reject the request.
Hope this helps.

If you got an email "saying so & so sent you a friend request" or it's in your 'notifications' on facebook then that person sent you the request.

There is a spot on your facebook home page that says "People you may know" & that's not an actual friend request, facebook is just suggesting people.

no, that's just facebook showing that the two of you have 2 mutual friends - 2 people who are also on facebook that are friends with you AND that person.

the person can't send it herself. facebook shows this for anyone that you might have mutual friends with. if you look up one of your friends in the search bar on facebook, their name will come up with how many friends you have both added in common underneath it.
this doesn't mean facebook is trying to tell you that you know the person. if you don't know the person, then facebook is just telling you they know two people who know you.
