Why is Twitter so popular when Facebook does the same thing plus way more?

Both allow you to write a short message to update what you are doing or what you are thinking, except Facebook also has a lot more feautures and apps. So why is Twitter more popular?

probably because twitter allows you to update what you are feeling or doing more often without being annoying. on facebook if you post a lot of statuses people will think you are being annoying. Its really only something that you just get your thought out there for, and for some reason, people take that over all of the drama that facebook can bring.

Facebook you feel as if you have to add your friend but twitter is a way to express how you feel without your friends following what you post about. Also you can follow celebs and see what they are up to. But I wouldn't say twitter is more popular than Facebook, it's just less intimate I guess!

Twitter is different from Facebook.

For instance, there's no way Facebook will tell you what is going on if something relevant happened during the last 5 minutes in a certain neighbourhood, or finding if someone else is having the same problem (for example, accessing a major portal), only twitter lets you do do this.
