how do people have so many friends on facebook?

I look at people's profiles and they have like 2000 friends on facebook
How does one have that many friends.

A lot of people accept friend requests from people they don't actually know. One reason would be if they play games such as Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc., they need lots of friends to help out with the games. They will either add friends of friends who play the same games or they will add complete strangers from the game forums.

You get a lot of friends if you know lots of people or just randomly ask for friend requests.

If you are hot people will be your friend. Seriously, if you put up a sexy picture people want to be your friend.

If your profile looks "cool" people will want to add you as a friend.

Well you have to know that most times if you have hundreds or even thousands of friends on facebook they are likely to be only virtual friends. In other words they have not seen each other but on the chat and through photos.
One should never mix up "facebook friend" with a real friend you have known for years and you go to a bar with..

Some people add everyone one from their school/college and everyone they meet in general.

Some people add people from add me groups. You add me I add you kinda jobs.
