Twitter: Protected tweets?

My tweets are protected/on privacy. I sent a tweet to another person, will they be able to see it and reply to me? They're not following me, but their username is in the tweet.

No, they won't be able to see it.

To quote twitter's words:
"@Replies you send to people who aren't following you will not be seen by those users (because you have not given them permission to see your Tweets)."
