Does the 1st amendment apply to government facebook accounts?
When a government official uses a facebook account that allows "wall postings" by the general public, does a person have any right to insist that their post not be deleted. Specifically, a person has been making harassing and nearly incoherent post-not simply dissenting or unpopular views-on the walls of state and local officials and within a month or so has his post deleted and is blocked from further postings. He then complains that his 1st amendment rights are being violated. Are they?

A Facebook is a private account. They have the right to restrict your speech on their private web site or Facebook account. The first amendment doesn't apply.

No, of course they don't.

A government official's facebook account is no more free to the public than his front lawn is. You have no right to post on "my" facebook.

The poster must still follow the guidelines and rules of the facebook community.
