ebook marketing strategy?

I'm writing my first story which i initially plan to release as an eBook. Being how it is difficult for a first time author to gain exposure as he/she begins with little to no credibility, is it safe to say that the author not only be responsible for much of the marketing but also to employ a variety of techniques to maximize for the best results?

There are actually a lot of "techniques" to help promote eBooks.
Promote on social networks (never miss any one: FB, Twitter, G+, reddit, etc.), set up personal blog (recommended), make related video / slideshare, etc. Therea are also many sites helping promote self-published books.
