Marketing a book isn't that hard if you know your target audience well. Target the right audience by doing the following:

1) Create a website (either for you as an author, or for the book). There, you must include a brief description, a cover image, instructions on how to buy the book, reviews your book has got, your biography, bibliography (if present) and contact info (which must include an e-mail).

2) Create a blog that revolves around the idea of your book. Offer tutorials, write articles, interact with other bloggers in the same niche and don't forget to link it to your website (if it's not already embedded there) and mention that you have a book that covers a similar topic.

3) A Facebook fan page for the book. Necessary. Include updates on the topics itself in that page and make sure it's frequently updated and that you interact on regular basis with the fans.

4) Your book has to be on an online retailer's website (like Amazon, for example). Don't expect people 'abroad' to contact you to get a copy unless this book is the best in its field - well, not even then. I know I wouldn't.

5) Send review copies to interested reviewers - through book review blogs (who are interested in your genre), magazines or newspapers. Catch the potential readers' eyes. Don't forget to link to them on your website.

6) Have an expert on the subject read your book and review it. Preferably a well-known one.

7) In India, try to participate in author and writing events. Get heard by the offline crowd.

8) Have it available as an eBook in several formats (PDF, ePub, Kindle, Nook).

9) Create a page for the book on Goodreads.com and participate in groups there.

I think that's it! Good luck!
