Since Facebook went on the stock market a few weeks ago, several people I know have been posting these 'warning' essays as their statuses telling the 'government' or whoever is looking at their page that their pictures and information are private and not to be used for anything? I always thought it was common knowledge that stuff on the Internet could be accessed by whoever whenever, even with high security settings if someone was a hacker and really wanted to get in and see stuff? Did someone just start this chain letter about invasion of privacy warnings or is this actually something about Facebook that changed when it went to a public IPO? It seems like a bunch of fluff to me, after all, if the government is checking someone out in 3 years are they really going to dig through old posts to see if there was a 'warning' posted on the page? And couldn't the government look at peoples Facebook before its shares went up for sale? People are specifically posting this saying that this 'warning' is a result of something that changed durring the past few weeks? any input? Googled it and nothing came up!

Its all a bunch of nonsense perpetuated by idiots. Once you post something on facebook, they own it and can do with it as they please. its all in the user agreement. Posting some kind of notice will not protect you, the only way to be fully protected is to not use the service in the first place.

Yeah, it's a stupid pointless chain letter, designed to get everybody posting the same thing on their statuses.
FB is full of this junk, and you can find info about a lot of these scams on Hoax-Slayer. Here's their page with newly added articles, and there are a several Facebook chain hoaxes in there, including this one. http://www.hoax-slayer.com/latest-information.html |
