Is it illegal to make someone a facebook page saying mean things?

Okay, so I made someone I know a facebook page, and added their friends. It says a bunch of mean stuff, and can cops trace that? I don't think so, but I don't want to take a chance. They say they want to press charges or something like that, and can they figure out it was me?

Yes, tracing something back to you is as easy as pushing a button. They can simple trace the IP address of someone and if the police force Facebook to give up profile information then they have no choice and you are screwed.

Even searches you do on Google.com can be traced back to you.
