login to facebook

click on account

select account settings

click on deactivate (which is next to "deactivate account")

you will be asked about why you want to deactivate.... choose whatever you want...

and then click on "Deactivate my account"

CONGRATULATIONS! Your facebook account has been deactivated! ^^

By the way, if you ever decide to come back to facebook again, you just have to login with your old id and password, and you will automatically get re- activated.

Cheers....

And yes, to delete it (permanently) you have to:

Method 1

1
Copy and paste http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php...te_account once you have logged on.

2
Click Submit and follow instructions (simple password and spam check)

3
Within the next 14 days, all of your posts, comments, info, etc will be eradicated and unviewable.

Method 2

If the above does not work for you, here is an alternate method.

1
To ensure Facebook has none of your vital information you should sign in delete all networks, photos, friends, inbox/outbox messages, contact info, and basically anything connecting you to the page.

2
Go to bottom of home page click on help which will lead you to help center.

3
At help center skip over the options and go to permanently delete. This should be number 3 on the list of help options; on a list on the right of the help center page.

4
Follow the steps which maybe... included you typing in your log in information such as email, password, and a captcha.

5
Do not log in for the next 14 days and it will be deleted completely. However, if you change your mind before the 14 days period, just log in and this will reactivate your account!

6
To speed up the process and if the above failed email Facebook directly at privacy@facebook.com and request them to delete your account.

7
Wait to get an email response from Facebook confirming that your account has been permanently deleted. This should take a few days.

8
If you don't hear back from Facebook within a week, email them again at privacy@facebook.com. As well as support@facebook.com and info@facebook.com.

9
Finally, attempt to log in to your account once you get an email from Facebook. If you're unable to log in and don't get a message asking you to reactivate your account, your Facebook account has been permanently deleted.

If you go to Account Settings, you can't delete your Faceboook account. You deactivate it, but your profile information is not erased.

In order to delete your account, search for Facebook account termination link and go there!
