When my daughter got an unexpected inheritance, she decided to pay her rent up for the next year. Her landlord accepted the money. Then seven months later he fined her for being late with the rent. When she produced the receipts for the rent, the landlord pointed out to her that there was a clause in the contract which stated that no tenant could pay more than six months ahead on their rent. Therefore she forfeited the additional rent because she paid it too early.

Needless to say, the courts informed him that because he accepted the money, the contract was invalid and he had to honor the payments.

Although I'm suspicious of anyone who claims to have paid their rent two years in advance...

If you paid by check, and you specified in the memo that the check was for rent for a specific period of time, and the landlord cashed the check, I'm pretty sure you're safe. If you paid by cash, or didn't fill in the memo area of a check or money order, you might have a harder time defending your position. It wouldn't be impossible, though, because the landlord probably couldn't come up with any other reason for getting such a large amount of money from you.

It's best to follow the admonition at Matthew 6:3 which says: Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Someone said it depends on your contract whether he will be able to impose the increase on you. We talk to much on social media. What did we do before Facebook, we were very selective who we talked to about our personal business. This might be a lesson you will have to pay for but hopefully it is a lesson learned.

Pl. look at it only from R & S point of view and on all such genuine doubts, please strictly follow the good words of advice from your own Mentor in letter and spirit meticulously, in future.
