Is youtube requiring real names be used?

I got a pop up from youtube more or less trying to push using my real name. There was a little option about using a company name or something else, but it kind of scared me.

For awhile, Facebook was making timeline an option. You didn't have to take it, but it was eventually forced on everybody. Is that going to happen with youtube? If I stay offline for a little bit and then suddenly go back on am I going to find that my name was used put in replace of my screen name without me knowing?

There is no way I would want my youtube comments having my real name. I would seriously just delete my youtube account. No joke. I would be gone and I would take my videos with me.

Yes I know I shouldn't have used my real name. I did just because I was using it to monetize my videos.

yes google plus has found a way to ruin another site by forcing them to change to its ways. There is a way to keep your old name though if you created it before this happened And i think you have to choose the company name thing. If you do this each time you sign in, it will give you the option to use youtube as your full name or as your business name and you have to choose business name to keep using your youtube name. That is what i had to do with my video game channel. I hope this answered your question and if this dosent work let me know my youtube name is 5oghost47

No! You don't have to use your real name! I was confused about this too for a while but it isn't like that. You can get around it. I don't remember how exactly, but to figure it out without risking damage to my YT account I made a different account just to test things out. I suggest you try the same. Even if it seems like its forcing you for a while there should be option eventually that lets you use your YT username on YT and not your real name. I have done this successfully within the last month or so.

Youtube is pulling your username from the Google plus you have linked.

If you unlink googlplus in youtube settings - it will let u change the name.

Suppose u dont want to unlink gplus, then change ur username by clicking on advanced.
