help with google plus?? easy 10 points?

I have a gmail, and one of my friends added me into their circle-so i made a google plus thing
and i dont get it..
1 explain circles, and what they each mean(following especially, does it mean like twitter kinda)
2 how to make it private?!
3 anything else i need to know

1.) Circles are the people you add/your contacts kind of, except you can have as many circles as you want. In one circle you can put your friends, another circle you can put your co-workers, in another circle you can put your family members, etc. When you share something, if you just want to share it with your friends and not anyone else, you have that option.
