Read your lease does it state in the lease that the landlord holds the right to increase rent at anytime or does it say they have a time frame they have to give you? check the lease for all details on what the landlord can do and if its not stated i would fight it. also be sure to check your local tenant laws

Good luck!

DON'T SHARE so much personal information!

There are people interested in taking part of every little bit of your fortune. As to what you can do, if you are on an annual contract, your landlord cannot change the rent in middle of the contract. But he can, upon renewal. In some states, there are laws by how much it an be raised. If you are on month-to-month agreement, it can be changed or terminated at any time.

You can have a lawyer write a letter to him but that alone will cost you and there is no guarantee he will. agree.

Wow, that is hilarious in a sick way. Sounds like an asshole, I wouldn't have added them as a Facebook friend much less post personal information like that.

Well you paid 2 years rent upfront. I hope you had a lease agreement for it. If there is a lease the terms will dictate the amount of rent you pay each month. If there is no lease you may be S.O.L., good luck.

Unless you had a 2 year lease that stipulated the rental amount then your landlord has the right to raise your rent, beyond whatever lease term you currently have. On the other hand, IF he cashed your check, then you can argue that he accepted your offer of that rental amount for 2 years.

If he is demanding a rent increase and you don't want to pay it,then demand he refund the advance rent you paid and go find another place. If you don't have a lease, then you're at his mercy. If he keeps your advance rent AND demands the rent increase, then hire an attorney to recover your money.

BTW, posting your raise on your facebook page is both tacky and inappropriate, but it doesn't have any bearing on your dispute.
