dont recieve app notifications, galaxy s smartphone?

Bought this phone from a friend, hooked it up through their same company, they did a factory reset, I don't receive notifications from Snapchat or facbook apps. When my friend had the phone it worked just fine. I've deleted apps and reinstalled them, all notifications are on in apps and settings, if taken the phone in and had it updated, and still no changes. Has anyone ever had this problem and fixed it? I'm out of ideas thanx in advance

Is the synchronizing on? And have you active mobile data or wifi connection? For getting notification from Facebook you must have data connection on and synchronizing on. That you will find in setting or in drop down menu.
