Two identical Sony Vaio laptops but one is slower? 5*?
My sister and I bought the same sony Vaio laptops at the same time (around a month ago, brand new) but mine is significantly slower.
Can you give me some ideas as to why mine might be slower and how I can make it faster so that I can try to fix the problem myself before bringing it in store.
Too answer gets full marks! Thanks Smile

You might have too many applications running, press control-alt-delete, this will bring up task manager and from their you can close certain applications. Also you could just be having connection issues. For example if your sister is closer to the wireless router. Other then that I would get the computer looked at by a professional.

You're right; don't bring it to the store just yet, why pay money for something you can fix? And I think it was actually easy too.

First of all, what do you use this laptop for? Playing games? Editing stuff (videos, pictures, etc.)? Because maybe you use it heavier than your sister did; maybe she only surf the web and her Facebook, nothing else. While you could have download a bunch of programs or play some games needing a lot of the computer's resources.

Here's my way to approach to the solution:

1. Use Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter - These two tools, which are already available on every Windows computer, are what I would try first. Disk Cleanup would free you somewhat MBs, maybe even GBs. Disk Drefragmenter will sort out all the files on you hard drives that weren't supposed to be there, so your hard drive would be organize and therefore, faster to access.

2. Uninstall any unnecessary programs/games - Yes, if you think you have Photoshop or World of Warcraft on your laptop just because you think you can show-off your friends about you having it (but in fact, you never use them), then take a second though. If you will never use a game/program now or in the future, the best way is to uninstall them. Just go to Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program.

3. Try another antivirus - Are you using some heavily-armed antivirus that blocked 99.99% of the malwares available in the Internet? It's not that I recommended you to downgrade or something, but if the one you're using are not very low in using system's resources, I suggest a change. If you don't do much activities online, then using MSE, AVG, or Avast will be fine. But otherwise, then you can stick to your current antivirus or some big brands like Kapersky, ESET, or Bitdefender.

4. Does your laptop have any viruses? - Scan your computer with your current antivirus, or search online for a scanner. Example of scanners are http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html . Any malwares are likely to make your computer slow and damaged your files.

5. Are there any running task in the background? - Believe me, if you got stuff like Facebook Messenger or Skype, those thing are running right now as you use your laptop, except you don't know they are. Best solution will be to right click on the icons (at the notification area at the bottom right corner) and click Exit. But don't exit them if it is important, like your antivirus or the speaker driver.

6. Download a Tune-Up utilities - There are some programs available free online that delete those unnecessary files on your computers like registry, for example. You may have heard of CCleaner, which I would recommend as it do the job well.

That's all I got! Have any questions, please contact me through my profile.

how are you testing it? if you are running a performance measuring app, it should explain where the two are different.
You may have bought the same model, but has it got the same amount of RAM, same OS, same HDD, same programs, apps, games, same AV etc, etc? Because any and all of these can affect performance.
Have you deleted all your browsers cookies and other files that so many apps create in the background?
