What is big fat deal when someone unfriend you on Facebook?
Anyway, a married friend whined to me and was upset when a woman he got to know in pub unfriend him on Facebook after he did not attend her birthday. I don't get what is the big fat hairy deal about being unfriended. He acted as if he lost something big and it was like end of world, WTH. Am not a Facebook user but IMHO, Facebook is turning matured guys into whiny gossipy people who sweat the small stuff. Geez. There is just too much irrelevant silly trivial nonsense with excessive use of social media like Facebook, Twitter that people have allowed it to invade their lives and their privacy.

People have started taking this Social networking thing just a little too seriously. I am in agreement with you that he is becoming a whinny little girl over some friend status on the internet.
The problem is that Social media is taking the place of actual human interaction. Why go out and make friends in real life when you can just click the like or friend button. Why call someone on the phone when you can text them. These same people think they are loved in a way no real interaction would allow because they have hundreds of friends on Facebook, and Thousands of followers on Twitter. Unfortunately it is all fake and hollow adoration. I use social media to keep in touch with people and find and be found by people i have lost touch with over the years. Beyond that if my pages got deleted tomorrow. Life would go on. I have social interaction skills and i am not afraid to use them.
I don't get why he is bent out of shape. He is married after all. He should be more worried about his own wife than some woman removing him as a friend on Facebook.
