Why is Facebook so slow in delivering notifications to my email?

I have email notifications enabled, so that's not the problem. The issue isn't that I don't receive the notifications, but that I receive them hours (sometimes up to a day) after I get them on Facebook. If someone sends me a message, I usually receive an email notification hours later.

Is this how it is for everyone? Anything I can do to change it?

their servers are too busy dealing with spammers.... and kids who accidentally click on "like" using their phones because they dont know how to use their phones

Usually if your company runs a email service used by thousands of people there'll be some drawback since the service is constantly sending email by email, moving spam to the spam folder day and night.
