How much longer can my laptop survive?
I have a 6-7 year old laptop and this morning I started hearing a faint "click click" I read that it is most likely hard drive failure. So if it is about how long till my computer kicks the bucket?

Minutes to a few days, depending on how badly its damaged. Its an easy fix tho. Just replace the hdd.

Its any ones geuss but the likely hood is you have a week at the best, and in truth if you buy a hard drive replacement it will probably cost more than your laptop is worth, but the hdd can be replaced.

Better replace the hard disk drive, to a newer and better one.I replaced mine for 120 euros and i got a 700gb hard drive for my laptop. And it works fine. Also, informally, the most hard drive failures are caused by head crashes. For changing your hdd, please contact a computer technician.

I have that it is a error but your computer can survive a long time still.
If it's on start up and goes away after a few min's it should be ok for a while maybe 6Months-2Year's.

Allison,

It is normal at times to hear parts of a hard drive called heads moving, but it should be relatively quiet and infrequent. However, if it is frequent and audible, that can be a sign of hard drive failure. Luckily, the hard drive is only a single piece of the computer, and one that can generally be replaced without much issue, even on a 6-7 year old laptop . The best way to be prepared for a hard drive failure is to keep frequent backups on an external hard drive, flash drive, or in the cloud. You may wish to take your PC to an authorized service provider for hard drive replacement. You'll also want to ensure you have recovery media in the form of a DVD or a flash drive to have the factory operating system put back on.
