How to tell family/friend I coverted to Islam?
I am a bit of a predicament. I recently converted to Islam after studying and praying. I still have a lot to learn but I feel more at peace than I have in a long time. I am happy with my decision. I'm also happy because I have found an islamic center near me that i plan on visiting on Friday. The only problem is i'm not sure how to tell my family and friends that I converted to Islam. They don't know anything other than what they see on television. I live in an extremely Christian town. People are very closed-minded also. I've been reposting some quotes on Facebook that are posted by different Muslim groups and today my former boss confronted me about it. She sent me an IM on Facebook asking me about it. She said "You're not converting are you." Based on what she was texting, she wouldn't have been very supportive. She would have been the type of person who would have preached at me to stop before, in her mind, destroying my salvation. I just didn't want to hear it and was very nervous. How do I go about telling family and friends? Has anyone else had this problem? Also, due to some medical conditions I cannot drive until April. I would need a ride to get to the islamic center. How do I explain that? What reason do I give them when my parents ask why I need to go there? How do I get the strength to tell them and everyone else? I need advice. Can anyone help?

Islam is a beautiful religion, May god clear the way to purity inshallah Smile Good luck with your family.
Sorry I can't help, but I suggest you talk to a sibling first.

Well many face your situation when either becoming atheists or doing anythings which other people think is out of the norm, but I advice you to look more into the religion and learn a lot more to have the ability to even explain to people as you will in the future(not just to your parents), why you're in this religion.

As a Muslim I always watch lectures and love to learn more as living in the west you tend to be among people who submit to pop culture, that means the women's role models are those plastic skinny celebrities you see on TV which every girl now want to be like, so it's not exactly called "freedom" to dress how they want, EVERYONE is submitting to something no matter what.

Explain to your parents what you love about the fundamentals about Islam that made you want to convert there, but find the right time to do so (when you gain enough knowledge about the religion). A lot of people won't be happy for you , but our religion teaches patience and the reward for that is great more than you'll ever know, god knows what you're facing and he will make it easier for you to pull through. You will face times when you ask yourself "why am I in this religion"? as everyone does, but that's why you need to always be connected with the religion and you need to answer ALL your questions about why you want to submit to this religion, see how it deals with women and other matters.

Once you know enough to feel satisfied to stay in the religion, tell your parents why you converted and what the facts about the religion are which made you convert, tell them what makes you convert into a religion even though the media doesn't favor them, while you tell me make sure you have no doubts and be confident that this is the best decision you've made with nothing that could change your mind.

If you've got like 10 minutes, grab a snack or a something and watch this guy, Anthony Green, he's amazing in this video he talks about how he converted, he even let his father convert to islam on his deathbed a day before he died! Any ways check this out and I hope everything goes well for you. If you happened to enjoy and want to watch more of him just search him up. He was also in a Christian family and always talks about how he questioned Christianity.
