Question for Twitter following/followers?

On Twitter... following are people you choose to follow. Followers are people who seen your Tweets and are following you? Explain this?
do the people that you choose to follow see our tweets? if you reply to someone... do they receive it? Do they get notified? how do they know?? do they only know unless they look on your tweet page?

if you follow someone, you can see their tweets with you on your page. if you are private, then you have to approve someone to follow you. if someone follows you, then they can see all of your tweets along with theirs on their page. kinda confusing isnt it? it took me a while to figure all that stuff out. and i still am figuring stuff out with twitter to this day! lol.

I tried to make it really clear for you because I used to be confused about it.
