Will your facebook online status show up if you have the facebook app open on your phone but not using it?
If someone has their facebook app running in the background on their phone but they aren't using the phone will facebook say they are online?

Yes if you have "chat" turned on. Turn off chat and no, noone can see you are on Facebook mobile.
