Can I use Gebner's Cultivation Theory in Social Media?

Gebner's Cultivation theory has to do with television and it's effect to the viewers. Can I use it on social media, take for example, Facebook and then its effect on the users?

yes but only if you use it to set up the same set of queries about facebook that gener used in his studies i,e you should not assume that facebook etc will have the same effect as the tv
