Why are Jewish people (in general) so successful in the Western societies?

The Jewish diaspora occurred during the 6th century due to the destruction of their homeland by the Romans. Many of them moved to the Eastern European states and started their new lives.
Centuries later, many of the Jewish descents became middle class bourgeois in the white Christian European societies. Even after the WWI, many Jews still controlled the financial institutions across Europe, which is why anti-semitism toward the Jews was so strong. And ultimately, this kind of anti-semitism led to one of the most tragic events in the history, the Holocaust.
Besides that, Jewish population in general is also very successful in the U.S. A lot of banks, medias, and even major universities are controlled by the Jews. I know there are poor people in every ethnic group, but I'm talking about the group as a whole. So please don't get offended or anything.

My question is, why are Jews, who happened to be the ethnic and religious minorities in Europe, are so successful in the Western world? If they're in the minority groups, how did they have the opportunities to climb up the social ladder and become the wealthy bankers in Europe? For example, black people didn't even have the same educational opportunities as the white people before the civil right movement because they are in the minority group. Even today, you tend to get more discrimination than others if you're an ethnic or religious minority (maybe in a less intense level). In the end, what exemplifies the Jews from getting discriminated by others? What makes them so successful as the minorities in the Western societies?

Please understand that this is a sociology and historical question, please don't get offended.

A number of reasons.

1. They band together and help each other without helping inferior races.
2. They will involve themselves in any business that is profitable without caring what kind of business it is.
3. They have no problem with exploitation as a means for profit.
4. They have a legacy of involvement with the financial industry.
5. They are ruthless in that they don't care what the consequences of their actions are.
6. They have control of the mass media and can use that to their advantage.
7. They can craft their image using the media as they see fit and craft the images of all others as lesser or inferior.
8. They insert themselves into positions which are the most influential and powerful, and do not insert themselves into positions where there is no influence or power.

As you can see, these traits essentially define a high-functioning sociopath greed-monger. It is no wonder they are successful in Western societies. Of course not all Jews are this way, but by and large, the great majority are. Their comprehensive control of the U.S. despite their small number in population is evidence of this.

Don't pay attention to Davis anti-semitic rant, it's not true.

The main reason is the value of education. Getting an education is a very important value in jewish families. You should check statistics on percentage that finish high school and college, compared to other races. And if you take Europe in 19th century, the difference is even more striking - a huge part of population could not even read while Jewish kids age 9 could were home-schooled to read and write.

As to why they went into banking in Europe, is because Christians could not go into banking - Christians could not charge interest due to the laws of that time.
