When you deactivate your Facebook account it is the equivalent of deleting it, although you will be able to reactivate it later on with all your friends and old posts.
When you delete your Facebook account, it totally gets deleted. There's no turning back. If you ever want to have Facebook again, you would have to create a totally new account and start from scratch.
I suggest deactivating it if you plan on not using it for the time being, just in case you change your mind.

Deactivating is temporary. Your profile is still saved in FB, just not available. The account gets activated again the moment you log back in.

Deleting on the other hand is permanent. You lose your account in the process and you won't be able to reuse nor reconstruct it. If you need to go back to FB you have to use a different username and re-invite your friends to that new profile.

when you deactivate your account it just takes it down untill you sign in again it saves all your info so you can get back on its for people taking trips and what not so there FB isnt cluttered when they get back on and you are not shown. Deleteing your account means just what it says DELETE means your profile is gone for good.

When you deactivate everything will disappear. No one will able to message you, nor interact with you, You can reactivate anytime by logging in with you email and password. Deleting your account, is the same thing, but everything will be erased, and they're will be no option for recovery. You can log back in before the 14 days are up
