Are BlackBerry phones perfect for a productivity and business?

I know BlackBerry's target audience is for people who require productivity and people like businessmen and women. My mom's a long time wedding planner and needs a new phone. She does email a lot (to clients, other businesses, etc) and prefers a physical keyboard. Also, the lack of many popular apps (Instagram, etc) doesn't matter.


Also, are BlackBerries a smartphone and PDA in one? Or just a smartphone?

Blackberrys are descent phones for productivity. Unfortunately, the keyboard and the massaging/emailing are pretty much its only strengths. Any iphone or phone running android will do the same things as a blackberry does as far as email and PDA functions. I know you said that the lack of app support is not a big deal, but there may be many productivity apps that are not on the blackberry App Store that could be helpful to your mom.

I had a blackberry years ago and absolutely loved it, but I feel that they really fell behind and apple and google blow them out of the water in all aspects. They are hard to recommend these days. If the keyboard is the most important thing, blackberry may be your best option. But if you can get used to a virtual keyboard, which it probably isn't as hard as you think to adjust, then I would recommend the iphone or an android device.

As as far as the smartphone and PDA question, pretty much all smartphones act as a PDA these days with the inclusion of a calendar, planner, task manager etc. The smartphone made the PDA obsolete.
