How do you stop Facebook notifications of groups?

Hi all,

I absolutely hate this new option on Facebook where you can blind invite/add people to groups without letting them firsthand accept or decline the offer.

I keep receiving not only notifications via Facebook, but e-mails about group. And then I switched the settings, and I stopped receiving e-mails and instead started receiving Facebook notifications about groups.

Under account settings--and then notifications--I have absolutely NONE of the fill-in boxes checked for notifications (this includes under groups!). What else can I do to stop getting the little red number sign that appears on the notifications logo. I need to belong to the group for my student organization, so I can't just quit... but how can I stop these dreadful notifications?
