Question about having a Facebook account?

Hi. I'm currently a college student and I am working on to get an internship at a big accounting firm soon. I never made a Facebook account because I've heard not very good things about it (ex: security problems, people getting fired because of unappropriate activity, and such). However, some of my closest friends are moving away and one of the best ways to keep in touch (other than phone calls) is by using Facebook. Not only that, by having an account, I can reconnect to my other old friends and family members who do have one that I haven't met in a long time. I know that companies can check my Facebook account. I guess the thing I'm concerned about is will having a Facebook account will leave a more or less negative impression if I plan to enter the professional work force for a big firm (e.g. my credibility and my chances of being sucessful at my career).

If I do get an account, I won't put anything unappropriate.. more like vacation photos of myself, family, and friends. For the account, I so far plan to make it personal only, not incorporating my job into it. I prefer to keep my personal and job life separate here.

You can change security settings so that only your friend can see your information and work will not be able to even see that you have an account. Facebook is so good for keeping in contact with people!

Just make most of it private. Everybody has a Facebook account these days. Merely having one won't keep you from getting a job.

It's ok to have a facebook account, but put the absolute minimum of info onto it. And keep the privacy settings at the maximum. And don't waste time on the games or "applications".

The people who run into problems there are the ones who post all kinds of drunken photos. So stay far away from that sort of thing.
