iPhone 4 ios without data plan?

I wanted to get the iPhone 4 ios but I don't want a data plan with it. If I get an unlocked one and just put a t-mobile sim card into it, would I be able to text, call, etc, (would i be able to send pictures??) and use apps, like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc when I'm in a wifi zone.. What about listening to music? Is that all the same as an iPod Touch?
Also while researching, I read something about trimming the sim card? Why would I need it and how would I do it?

I believe that you can add the sim card but you have to have tmobile block Internet and all that you don't want.

Yes, pretend you got a regular iPhone and then got it unlocked say from here, http://iPhoneunlockshop.com , you can use it with T-Mobile. The one thing is that iPhone has started to use Micro Sim cards which are a lot smaller. This means that you will need to cut your own T-Mobile sim card in order to get it to fit.

This is pretty easy to do to be honest, as long as you are willing to actually try and unlock your phone.

No. you have to have a plan to use data, that's what it's for, otherwise you will have no access, or an incredibly expensive phone bill. It's a smartphone, it's REQUIRED. There is no such thing as a data plan on an i Pod touch, you only access stuff through wifi.
