How do i send a message on twitter!?!?

I am new to twitter well not really new but i haven't used it a lot until now and i want to know how to send a direct message so that only the person that i send it to can read it ?

Ok ill try and explain this the best i can ill go step by step.

-Log in
-Go to your twitter page
-Then on the right hand side it should say....

Home
@(Your twitter name)
Direct Messages
Favorites

-Click on Direct Messages
-Then at the top it should say Send then there will be a drop down bar, click on that then select the person you wanna send it to
-Type your message then click send

hope this helps you! sorry i've tried to explain it the best i can.. also i think that if you wanna direct message someone they have to be following you, in order to send them a direct message..not 100% sure tho! but hope it works for ya!
