Symbol meaning on Facebook app?

I have the iPhone4 and also have the Facebook app. When I loom to see who's online to chat some of my friends have a ">" next to their name. I've asked them if they were trying to chat with me they have said no. I'm wondering what that little symbol means.
I have deleted the app and re-installed. Friends who have the same phone see the same thing.

I think it's a problem with the application because according to facebook emoticon list found in http://facebookemoticons.com/emoticons/ there is no such emoticon.
