My facebook notifications disappear?

when i log in i can see for example a 3 in the notifications, but shortly it disappears and nothing is there, i don't even get an email. what's wrong?

I've had this happen as well. I found the cause to be when I had multiple notifications for one post(ex. several people commenting/liking the same picture) I only clicked on one notification in the window so the alert went away. Basically it's "unseen" notifications even though you've already seen, say a comment on a post. Make sense? Try going to https://www.facebook.com/notifications to see if you may have missed something.
