One Direction?...Beliebers?...Channel4?...?
What hAs happened with them? I've seen a few things on twitter like #riplarryshippers, and a few comments about channel 4 should get sued because of a documentary. What happened in the documentary? I've also seen some tweets saying Beliebers are here for directioners or something. Can someone people explain? Thanks

One Direction fans have reacted angrily to Channel 4's documentary about the boyband's obsessive following which aired tonight (August 15), proclaiming "This is not us" on Twitter.

The one-off show examined the extremes of 1D fandom, including death threats to band members, superfans who will stop at nothing to get in a room with the boys, and 'shipping' fans, who have developed fantasies about hidden love and bromances within the band.

> 'Crazy About One Direction': The 10 craziest fan moments

The boyband - Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson - have become the biggest pop group on the planet over the last three years and their fans have become notorious for their passion, dedication and activities on Twitter.

Crazy About One Direction questioned whether the group signal a "new phase of idolatry, a cult now powered by the online community" or whether this is just another form of Beatlemania.

Following the programme, fans on Twitter expressed their upset at Channel 4 and managed to get "#THISISNOTUS" (the opposite to the title of One Direction's upcoming movie) to become a top trend.

Some suggested Directioners - the name for One Direction's huge following - were misrepresented by the documentary and that Channel 4 was trolling for ratings.

Basically channel 4 did this documentary which exposed how crazy directioners are. Eg they said they'd kill a puppy to meet 1D, they'd go to jail to meet them, they'd kill taylor swift if they saw her, they wrote gay fanfics about harry and louis etc. Then direcitoners started getting all upset on twitter bc they were looking like total freaks. They started spreading rumours that people had committed suicide over the documentary, and then some beliebers said they were supporting the directioners (although idk why bc directioners are always hating on beliebers).

They have basically made a documentary about one direction fans but in the wrong way. Showing us as people who stalk the boys and send hate. That is a very small minority do that, but this documentary showed it as if all of the fans do that. They have shown the fandom in the wrong light making us out to be something we aren't. They also included Larry ( Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinsons ship name) fan fiction and fan art. Which most of us thought was inappropriate as Harrys family were watching and some of the 1D band members. This caused Larry shippers to apparently commit suicide, which i don't know is true or not. That was why #RIPLARRYSHIPPERS was trending and also #THISISNOTUS was trending as a play on word as the boys as a film being realised soon call This Is Us.
