Do military recruiters check your facebook page?
I'm looking to join the Army but I have put up a few social media posts where I've been rather "critical" of the U.S. government, specifically the military's past deeds.
I'm patriotic but when something is wrong, the flag that's backing it up doesn't make it right.. So I've voiced that opinion a couple of times and am now wondering if it will effect my ability to serve.
I expressed interest in Special Forces and he said I'd be a good SF candidate. That athletes have an easier time in there. I didn't have the nerve to tell him about my FB posts when he told me I'd need clearance lol.
Can anyone help? Should I just delete my Facebook account?

The Recruiter will not. But the security clearance investigator will.

A military recruiter is only interested in whether or not you meet the basic criteria to enlist.

Having said that.... Be careful with this Facebook stuff. Facebook has caused potential employees to lose out on jobs, and Facebook postings have resulted in criminal convictions.

Not saying you fall into either of those categories, just making the point that we all have to be aware of what we say in a public forum could have undesirable consequences. Often times it's best to keep our opinions to ourselves.

No, recruiters have other things to worry about, other than what one put on their facebook page.

They can look on your page but cannot deny you a security clearance based on your opinions unless you did something really stupid like call for the violent overthrow of the government.

As long as you don't say anything illegal or directly criticize or threaten the commander and chief (the President) its fine. I am very critical of the Government (including the military) on my Facebook a and I have never had any issues.

However, like I said the main thing is to be careful what you say about the President, because that is the thing that people do get discharged for (its actually fairly common).

Also, your recruiter does not care, he wants you in, he will be the last person to try to disqualify you. So don't worry about what he may or may not have seen of you.

However, if you want a Top Secret type job it might be best to just delete Facebook or at the very least make it as anonymous and non-offensive as possible.

Any employer can look at your FB page. If you must journal your opinion for all the world to see, than make a fake name with a fake account.
