Is it safe to put videos of your child on youtube?

I want to make a youtube account with videos of my nephew singing, dancing etc like you see others doing. But when I told my sister she said make sure the name is not a real name (so I'll make up the name for google+?) and make sure it's private because it's not safe. People post videos on youtube of their kids all the time but is it really safe for the world to see? Because if I make it private then I don't even see the point of making the account since I can post videos on facebook for just friends to see. And another question I have is, is it possible to make all the things I share on google+ private?

Hi,

I understand your concern. I do not recommend uploading this type of videos to YouTube. YouTube is a great place but I do not recommend you upload these videos. If you have to, use a fake name (do not name the username after yourself) and when you're uploading the video make sure it is unlisted, this way ONLY people with the link to the video (example your sister and whoever else you send the link to) will be able to access it. It is up-to you if you wish to upload it, but I agree with your sister and don't upload it. There is no harm in sending it through email.

Not! safe. You cannot tell for sure what will go public and what will not. And what will be able to be searched by Google search engines by the public. They are making changes every day and then telling you you can opt out. See if you can make a strictly youtube only channel, do not link it to your regular gmail account. They constantly try to merge your gmail and your youtube, with one wrong click then any person you’ve ever emailed will have the videos. It is NOT safe.
