Facebook Chat on mobile?

My sister was using Facebook chat on my iPhone 4 (I have the latest version of the app and my phone is up to date) and everytime she received a new chat message my phone (as long as the Facebook app was open) would vibrate and make a little noise. However, when I logged into my account I didn't receive notifications about new chats. does anyone know how to fix this or make it so that I can get the notifications?

I'm not sure about the iPhone version as I use the smartphone version for Nokia but my best bet would be that you need to go into the app's settings and activate notifications.

In the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad Facebook app [the newest one that is] there should be a button on the top bar of the app that looks like a message box. Every time you get a message or chat it should notify you by putting a red number beside it. Facebook has integrated their messages with their chats, I think it's dumb personally.
