Do you find it creepy how they know?

If I look at pictures of Ke$ha on Pinterest and then login on Facebook, her fan page is suggested to me.

If I'm writing a paper and researching Sir Percival through Google, "Merlin" comes up in my Netflix suggestions.

If I'm looking on Amazon for reviews for a Nancy Drew game, the games show up in a Facebook ad.

To me, this kind of thing is super creepy. I hear they're becoming more advanced at this kind of marketing. For instance, at Target, they have tested how long people have stood in front of a certain product with heat sensors.

To me, if I see an ad for something I was just looking for on another website, it negatively affects me. No way am I buying that game now. It's creepy!

So, to you, is this creepy? Or cool that they have the technology to tell your interests?

Yeah, it's really creepy. I keep my comp locked down
as tight as possible but some of this shitt still seeps through.

Internet marketing revolution. Companies are making software to track their visitor's interests, etc. I agree, it is very irritating.

Maybe you should get firefox, set it to private browsing (or not accept third party cookies) and get the adblock plus addon. Your creepy problem is solved.

It's not creepy. It's MARKETING. And it's computer generated.

Interesting thing is...I was in my home town, using my mother's computer, on my account, and I am still, almost a year later, getting ads from my hometown on my yahoo...weird! Never click on them...never pay any attention at all...but they keep trying.

but yes, tracking cookies track your every move and complex algorithims serve up seemingly relevant info... its not really mysterious, yes google is the WORST of the bunch...but the big players all share info.

its actually only a few companies that have alot of this control.

Ever use AOL back in the day? where as far as you were concerned that aol program WAS the internet, unless you used a real browser aol was serving up all the information you saw.

well thats what the internet is turning into... as far as we are concerned, a few big companies ARE the internet. we just have the illusion of visiting "different" sites.
