Is technology taking over our children?
Recently I went over my friends house and was shocked to find her 2 and 3 year old on Ipads. They had one each and were on it all day vegetating on the couch and had full access to the internet. What was more shocking was how they were able to navigate everything, very intelligent right?

However the 2 year old was watching this angry orange which I thought was violent and graphic

Is this the modern child? addicted to technology? I feel like my childhood in the 90's was a lot better quality. I had one games console to share with my brothers and only had new games at birthdays and Christmas, we went out to play A LOT , we were very active and learned how to socialise and make friends with neighbours. My mother provided traditional games and she took me to parks to play

These kids have facebooks created by their parents, and they can download free apps so the thrill of playing a new game at their disposal can be highly addictive and easily accessible. The parents sit them on the couch to play on their ipads and they never go out to play.

I asked my friend how long her children have been using the ipads and she told me since 18 months ( before they were able to speak! )

Is this right?

Not intelligent, I read an article on this recently and basically they make ipads extremely easy to use that it doesn't take any intelligence what so ever. For the fact that this is how the children are spending their time is sad and will have a negative effect on them. They need every type of stimulation at their age: talking, playing, just engaging period. But yes definitely technology is taking over the world not just children EVERYONE.

“In the past, we only had to be concerned about too much TV exposure. Now we have video games, computers and cell phones. It is overwhelming for young children and creates patterns of behaviors similar to addiction patterns . . . Their brains get used to too much auditory and visual stimulation—and in the absence of these stimulations, they do not know what to do with themselves.”—Mali Mann, M.D.

WE LIVE in an increasingly “wired” world thanks to advances in communications technology and the Internet. Many young people cannot leave home without their portable media player or cell phone. And as these and other devices become more powerful, more versatile, and less expensive, the present flood of communications technology may only intensify, creating even more challenges for parents in regard to supervising, training, and disciplining their children.
Those challenges can be met when parents do two important things. First: Recognize the truth of the following statement found in the Bible at Proverbs 22:15: “All children are foolish, but firm correction will make them change.” (Contemporary English Version) Second: Understand the power of technology to influence children in a positive or negative way, and strive to make it positive.
