Do social media sites only encourage the desire to fuel an unhealthy ego?
My opinion is that social media sites such as facebook, myspace, twitter and to a degree Answers only help fuel the desire to inflate an unhealthy ego. People who use these sites seem so concerned to appear witty, funny, good looking, intelligent etc etc that it seems as though its just a distraction from life itself. I mean you dont have time in real life to think of witty comments or research, cut and paste information or photoshop your love handles out. Unless you are actually funny or intelligent or have a body you're comfortable in. So how really are any of these sites beneficial in the enlightenment of the human race. Answers is borderline because you have people who actually know what they're talking about and then you have people who just use the net to research the topic that the asker could've done themself not to mention the trolls who just use it to entice anger or frustration which helps them support their twisted egos.

Im not asking for peoples opinions to help support my opinion. Im just hoping to invoke awareness of this trap. I know people use excuses like its good for keeping up with events or birthdays or blah di blah blah but really we managed just fine without the constant need to know whats going on right now before all of this.
I dont believe there's a future for any of this stuff because I hope that people are waking up to the fact that these are fruitless attempts by smart people who are playing on the self absorbed aspect of the human condition to become mega rich.

Who knows....what do you think??

I have to agree with you on this one.
But then again it seems to be human nature to behave like this with or without facebook.
But in my opinion it helps to fuel desire to work hard to get the image you desire.
The things I would worry more is the media, the media everything we see on TV influences a large aspect of our lives especially in America it is quite a disgusting sight when you actually began to notice what Hollywood, the media,etc... is doing to everyone around you.

I also want to note that the government is already beginning use facebook to track people down.

social media is ......quick! fast! instant!
and in today's world, with today's generation, everything they want should come then and there at that moment. think: instant noodles, for example.

in older days, people had the patience to make the hard crunchy noodles, to make their own powdery tastemaker and then slowly cook and eat at a normal pace. as technology and the world evolves, one can make instant noodles in factories and sell them in tiny packets quick!.

Sooo, if you can make 2 minute noodles, why not say a two minute Hi to somebody on facebook instead of calling them, planning and fixing a time and place, finally meeting them and then saying,"Hi".

My example is a little hard to explain but I guess in a nutshell, I'd say: I agree with you.
